As a matter a fact, you can't do anything except minimize or close the program until it responds again. Why is that?
Applications are using resources that you cannot see. If one or more of the resources is having complications and is not supplying the data the application needs, then there is a potential chance for a lock-up or a crash. Also, with newer systems coming online every day, older computers require more and more memory. If your system is outdated to an extent, you may need to physically load more memory into the machine.
